10 Day / 9 nights: Southern Tanzania Adventure Safari

Experience Tanzania’s smaller camps, offering simple old-fashioned bush experiences, on this adventurous fly-in safari. Fly to Ruaha National Park, a visual treat, with rocky outcrops and mountain ranges and the Great Ruaha River, with its deep gorges, swirling rapids and excellent fishing (in season). View herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra and a huge population of lions and leopards. From Ruaha, fly to Katavi National Park, Tanzania’s most westerly and remote national park.

Day 1 - 3: Ruaha National Park - Ruaha River Lodge

On arrival Dar Es Salaam, take your scheduled flight to Ruaha National Park in Southern Tanzania, offering exceptional scenery, habitats and wildlife viewing. Ruaha is one of Tanzania great parks yet receives very few visitors because of its remoteness. As a result the 4x 4 game drives are very rewarding. Accommodation is in bungalows built from stone and thatch, which provide the perfect setting in to relax between bush excursions. From the seclusion of your verandah you can watch animals descend from the hills in order to quench their thirst at the river. The dining and bars, in elevated positions above the river, combine comfort and coolness with unrivalled panoramic views. Game drives through the park, using one of the Lodge's specially adapted vehicles, take the traveler into wildlife territory where refreshing cold drinks and picnics may be enjoyed in scenic surroundings. Alternatively, short walking safaris, led by an experienced guide, give guests the opportunity to "touch the wild". Ruaha River Lodge (B, L, D).

Day 4 - 6: Katavi National Park - Katavi Wildlife Camp

From Ruaha, fly to Katavi National Park, one of Tanzania's most westerly and remote parks. The park is only just beginning to gain recognition for its beauty and the quality of its game viewing. It is quite remote that it just gets about 200 visitors a year. It is the ultimate 'off the beaten track' safari destination away from the crowds. Katavi Wildlife Camp will be exploration base. The camp consist of 6 tents, luxurious in size and furnishings and cunningly set back in amongst the trees that line the floodplain, providing both shade and camouflage in the prime game viewing area of the park, where the wildlife are unaware of your presence. During you 3 night stay here an experienced and professional guide will lead your game walks and 4x4 wheel drive game drives. Katavi Wildlife Camp (B, L, D).

Day 7 - 9: Mahale National Reserve - Greystoke Mahale Camp

After breakfast, fly to Mahale National Reserve. There is no better way to end your safari than at the exclusive Greystoke Mahale Camp, a wonderful haven on the golden shores of Lake Tanganyika. Completely isolated from the rest of the world, the camp allows guests to follow chimpanzees which live in the Mahale Mountains, just behind the camp. As you return from this utterly absorbing adventure and dive into the warm waters of Lake Tanganyika at sunset, it will dawn on you what a special place this is, a place of pure Nirvana. The camp ambience is incredibly chic. It consists of six simple tents facing the lake, sumptuous furnishings abound; pillows are stuffed with real feathers, linen is of the finest kind and beds are hand-made from local wood. Fresh sushi and cocktails are served on the shores of the lake at sunset, picnics are organized on the boat or shores of the lake and delicious dinners are taken in the beautiful ottoman-style dining tent lit with glowing lanterns. The unique Mahale Mountain Camp in the middle of Africa is full of style, exclusivity and fun. Just picture this; negligible number of tourists, untouched wilderness, glamour in the wild, glorious sunsets over Lake Tanganyika, exotic sundowners on the beach, sailing or fishing in traditional dhows, chimpanzee galore - all pure bliss in a far away world! Activities here include: Chimpanzee treks, Bird watching, swimming in Lake Tanganyika! Fishing, Dhow trips on the lake. Greystoke Mahale Camp (B, L, D).
